I was featured in a feature story in the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter today (4/27/2012). Quite nice.
Scanned copy of the story is in the media file.

Well, I did it as planned, before my BD. The Solutionist is available on Amazon.com for the Kindle. If you don’t have a Kindle, you can download a Kindle reader for your computer for free. I have added a link going directly to the Amazon site. http://www.amazon.com/kindle/dp/B0076B3CII should also work, but you may have to copy and paste into your browser.
It will also be available at Smashwords.com shortly.

Well, finally, I am back on track after a rather long break. I have one more change I plan on making in The Solutionist book and plan on publishing it before the end of the month. I hope you will find the book interesting and stimulate you into taking action to participate.
More later…

We need to do a better job of working together to develop solutions that meet real needs without harming anyone else.

The war on drugs is a complete and utter failure. This is not because we are doing is wrong. It is not because we need a greater commitment. It is not because the other side is smarter than we are. It is certainly not because we are not spending enough money. The reason we are failing is because we are doing it.
We should have, and eventually did learn an important lesson from the prohibition on alcohol. It didn’t work! That was the lesson we learned so we stopped trying to prohibit production, sale and use of alcohol and took the saner and more effective approach of placing some controls on the production, sale and the consequences of inappropriate behavior resulting from the use of alcohol. Yes, there is still abuse, but we are far better off than we were during prohibition.

I are not talking about hard labor for children here, at least not in the early years, and later, not for extended periods. Working in a garden or on a farm, or digging a hole is something to grow into, not thrust upon on us when we have our 18th birthday, and suddenly become “adult”.

We need to identify at risk situations at the earliest possible point. Preventing problems is always preferable to trying to fix them after the fact. We already have mountains of data about the problems; they have been with us for a long time. We have not demonstrated we have the will to prevent and to fix them.

Studies such as James S. Catterall Doing Well and Doing Good by Doing Art shows that the study of the arts opens our minds to success in other areas. Aside from that, art is fun.
