\nDrugs
\nThe drug problem can and must be solved and yes, there is
\na solution, and yes, others, have come to the same
\nconclusions.
\nThe prohibition on alcohol did not work; and the prohibition
\non drugs is not working either. Did you know the terrorist
\nnetworks are funded primarily on illegal drug money? It
\nseems we are funding attacks on ourselves\u2026 Loretta
\nNapoleoni, an expert on terrorist financing, says the largest
\nsource of terrorists’ income is the illicit drug trade. Other
\nsources agree with this finding. If you wish to confirm these
\nfindings try searching for \u201chow do terrorists fund their
\nactivities?\u201d
\nThere will always be a problem with individuals abusing
\ndrugs, including alcohol. We, as a society, are not able to
\ncontrol what others do to themselves. We are however,
\nexpected to protect individuals from harm by others. It is
\nimpossible to prevent all forms of harm to everyone all the
\ntime. Nonetheless, we take great efforts to protect one
\nanother. Prohibition of these things is just one tool that does
\nnot work.
\nSo, here we perceive drugs are bad, and that is why we
\nhave crime, and gangs, and our young people are being led
\nastray, and the harm done is almost too much to bear. We
\ncreate a law saying no one can use these drugs. Everyone
\nis aware of the law and no one uses drugs anymore. Wasn\u2019t
\nthat easy?
\nProblem solved; right?<\/p>\n
We also have a problem with individuals abusing
\nprescription drugs.

\nOne to lessen the pain; one to hasten the thrill.
\nShe left with my buddy, and broke my heart
\nShe broke it in two; going to need a new start.
\nOne pill in the morning, another at night
\nIt may not really help me, but then maybe it might.

\nI don\u2019t want to remember, but I just can\u2019t forget
\nA nice little pill just might be the best bet.
\nWho was it that said; oh what was it again?
\nSometimes we must end life and before we begin.
\nI found a new girlfriend; it\u2019s my buddy I miss
\nI\u2019d like to go fishing, but all she wants is to kiss.
\nI can\u2019t feel my face now; where is my head
\nPull up the covers, and just stay in bed.
\nTomorrow will come now, that is for sure
\nNew days may bring laughter and that is the lure.
\nDoctor, doctor, gimme a pill
\nOne to lessen the pain, one to hasten the thrill.
\nIllegal drugs use in this country is not our only drug problem,
\nbut is where I suggest we begin.<\/p>\n

The war on drugs is a complete and utter failure. This is not
\nbecause what we are doing is wrong. It is not because we
\nneed a greater commitment. It is not because the other side
\nis smarter than we are. It is certainly not because we are not
\nspending enough money. The reason we are failing is
\nbecause we are attempting to do something that has already
\nbeen proven to not work.
\nWe should have, and eventually did learn an important
\nlesson from the prohibition on alcohol. It didn\u2019t work! That
\nwas the lesson we learned so we stopped trying to prohibit
\nproduction, sale and use of alcohol and took the saner and
\nmore effective approach of placing some controls on the
\nproduction, sale and the consequences of inappropriate
\nbehavior resulting from the use of alcohol. Yes, there is still
\nabuse, but we are far better off than we were during
\nprohibition.
\nThe basic facts are shocking and you, dear reader, should
\nbe pissed off about this whole thing. .
\nFurthermore, it has been most interesting to me to discover
\nthat one of the leading proponents of legalizing drugs is an
\norganization known as LEAP (Law Enforcement Against
\nProhibition) I suggest you check out their web site:
\nWe spend billions of dollars fighting the war on drugs. I
\nrepeat, Billions!
\nWe have had NO IMPACT on reducing the number of people
\nwith drug problems. The percentage of people misusing
\ndrugs before we started this prohibition is the same or worse
\nnow. As during the prohibition on alcohol, we found for
\nsome, the use of something illegal is more attractive just
\nbecause it is illegal. The use and misuse of alcohol were
\nhigher during prohibition it was either before or after.
\nExperts are in agreement the prohibition on drugs also
\nresults in this interesting human behavior.<\/p>\n
We can\u2019t build jails fast enough to house all the people who
\nare convicted of drug violations. This is compounded by the
\ncrimes and results those who are committing crimes to get
\nmoney to buy illegal drugs.
\nThink about this for a minute\u2026
\nNow, there seems to be a fair amount of discussion about
\nthe legalization of marijuana. The same approach should be
\ntaken for other drugs as well. All the same arguments apply.
\nDo there need to be controls? Of course controls are
\nneeded, just as they are with alcohol. However, until these
\ndrugs are legalized and controlled properly, the drug dealers
\nstand to make a lot of money, and as we now see will try to
\nget young people hooked on drugs, so they can sell them at
\nhuge profits.
\nI will say this now. We could certainly make better use of 67
\nbillion dollars as pointed out in the next chapter.
\nBy the way, I do not use drugs and don\u2019t like even taking
\nprescription drugs if I can avoid it.
